"The death will slaughter, by its wings, anyone who tries to allay the security and the peace of the graves of the Pharaohs." This statement was found carved on the tomb of Tutankhamen which followed its discovery a series of strange incidents.
That started with the death of many workers searching the cemetery, which confused many scientists and people.
The least description to the legend of the Pharaohs' curse, stuck in the mind of the Egyptian civilization's admirers is "the ambiguous mystery".
The term "curse of the Pharaohs" has been used after the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922 AD, for many reasons:
- The discovery of the cemetery was followed by a series of strange incidents.
That started with the death of many workers, searching the cemetery, for very trivial reasons and under unexplained circumstances. This confused scientists and people.
- It was said that a strong sandstorm arose around the tomb of Tutankhamen on the day it was opened.
- A flying falcon, a sacred symbol in the culture of the Pharaohs, was seen over the cemetery the day of its opening.
- The tomb was discovered by two Englishmen: Howard Carter and Lord Carnavaron.
During the official celebration of the opening of the cemetery, Lord Carnavaron was attacked by a mysterious fever that many doctors couldn't explain and in the middle of the night Lord Carnavaron died in Cairo.
The strangest thing is that the electricity was cut off in Cairo without any apparent reason at the same moment of his death.
Cairo newspapers linked the death of Lord Carnavaron to the electricity cut off and claimed that it was ordered by King Tutankhamen.
It is worth mentioning that many archaeologists have stated that the curse of the Pharaohs is just a myth and the death cases that occurred were just coincidence.
The proof of this: Nothing happened to Howard Carter the discoverer of the tomb.
As a matter of fact, people don't believe in such a curse. Evidently, the graves which were opened caused the death of many people, because they were locked up for centuries and as a result, the air inside these graves is poisonous and anyone who breathes in such air must get any of the germs that filled the air.
On the other hand, others claim that these accidents and suicides were caused by the genies because it was known that the Pharaohs were the most powerful wizards in the world. Perhaps they used the genies to defend their tombs.
